By all means, the equipments and methods required is well beyond the capabilities of the everyday iPhone thief, and isn't something your friends can do as a prank, as it requires taking your phone away for some time - which by then you would have dead locked your phone through Activation Lock.
This is something that requires skill, effort and time. Is the data on your iPhone worth that effort? If you're some great CEO, maybe. If you're the average guy on the street, no.
So why the fuss when Touch ID so conveniently offers security greater than the conventional 4-digit passcode that can be broken within 1 hour of hard brick spam? Or seen when you're typing? ;)
